A Dallas Deputy Marshal fatally shot a coyote near a park off the Katy Trail on Tuesday after a man reported that the coyote had approached him while he was walking his dogs.

While working near Reverchon Park in the 3500 block of Maple Avenue in the Uptown area, the deputy marshal stated that the man described the coyote as “aggressive” during the incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon.

After spotting the coyote, the deputy marshal established a perimeter with other deputies and fired a single round, killing the animal as it moved toward a populated section of the Katy Trail. Thankfully, no injuries were reported from the encounter.

City officials indicated that the coyote’s remains would be sent to a laboratory for testing. The Dallas Police Department is currently investigating the shooting.
