Five Soldiers Injured at Fort Stewart in Georgia; Suspect in Custody

Five soldiers were injured in a shooting at Fort Stewart in Georgia Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred within the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area. All wounded soldiers received on-site medical care before being transferred to Winn Army Community Hospital for additional treatment. There is no active threat to the surrounding area.

Law enforcement responded to reports of gunfire at the 2nd ABCT complex around 10:56 a.m., and the suspect was taken into custody by 11:35 a.m.

The base was placed on lockdown at 11:04 a.m. and reopened the main cantonment area at 12:10 p.m., although the 2nd ABCT complex remains under lockdown.

Emergency medical teams arrived around 11:09 a.m. to treat the injured personnel.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided once it concludes.
