Two police officers from DART and the Dallas Police Department were injured while trying to apprehend five suspects on Friday.

The Dallas police reported that on April 28 at 1 PM, Kendrick Braxton held an individual at gunpoint inside a convenience store at the intersection of Live Oak Street and Liberty Street. The victim handed over $400 in cash before Braxton fled on foot.

Surveillance footage captured the 19-year-old Braxton casually walking with a backpack just moments before he allegedly robbed the store. Four days later an officer spotted Braxton with four other young men near the West End DART platform.

Officers suspected a drug deal was in progress.

When the five suspects noticed the police, they attempted to escape. Braxton was tackled to the ground, and a stolen firearm, masks, gloves, and cash were found in his backpack.

In the meantime, 18-year-old Joseph Session jumped over a wall in an attempt to evade capture by the officers.

During the pursuit, police reported that Session struck a DART police sergeant in the face.

Session was quickly caught and placed in handcuffs.

A BB gun was discovered in Session’s pants.

Ultimately, all five suspects were taken into custody, including Braxton, Session, and 17-year-olds Marteas Robinson, Authur Alexander, and Jaylen Mathis.

According to DART, a second officer also sustained injuries during the incident.

Dallas police arrived to support their fellow officers, resulting in injuries to two Dallas police officers during the arrest. One officer was transported to a nearby hospital, while the other suffered minor injuries.

Braxton and Session are currently being held at the Dallas County jail.
