Hillshire Brands Recalls Corn Dogs and Sausages on a Stick Over Potential Wood Contamination

241views

The Hillshire Brands Company, based in Texas, is voluntarily recalling over 50 million pounds of corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products due to contamination with foreign material—specifically, pieces of wood embedded in the batter, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The FSIS reports that at least five individuals have been injured as a result.

The affected products were packaged between March 17, 2025, and September 26, 2025, and were distributed nationwide through online sales, retail stores, food service providers, school districts, and Department of Defense facilities.

An internal investigation by Hillshire Brands determined that the wooden sticks used in the products entered the production line before the battering process. The FSIS states that no additional injuries related to these products have been reported.

Officials are concerned that some of these products may still be in consumers’ refrigerators and freezers, as well as in those of schools and other institutions. Consumers, schools, and facilities who have purchased these items are advised not to consume them. The products should be discarded or returned to their place of purchase.
