Early Thursday morning, Lewisville police fatally shot a woman after a police chase.
The incident began when officers attempted to stop a vehicle suspected of being driven by someone with an active felony warrant from another agency. While verifying the suspect’s identity, the female driver fled at high speed with no other passengers.
During the chase, the suspect, later identified as 43 year old Joanna Rebecca Rogers, collided with a Lewisville police vehicle but continued driving away from officers. The officer involved in the crash was unharmed. The pursuit concluded in a parking lot in the 2200 block of southbound Interstate 35E in Lewisville.
Once the car stopped, Rogers exited and brandished a handgun. Officers ordered her to drop the weapon, but she ignored their commands despite repeated requests. Officers then opened fire, hitting her.
Life-saving efforts were initiated until emergency personnel arrived and took her to the hospital, where Rogers died shortly after 1 a.m. The investigation remains active.
