A shooting early Thursday morning at a Budget Suites in Lewisville resulted in one woman’s death and left a suspect injured.
Police responded to multiple 911 calls shortly after 6:20 a.m. at the 2100 block of South State Highway 121, near Corporate Drive.
Upon arrival, the suspect emerged from the hotel room and fired shots at officers. Initially, the officers took cover and did not return fire.
The suspect then retreated back inside, prompting officers to request assistance from the SWAT team and armored units. When they arrived, the suspect exited again and engaged in a gunfight with officers.
Following a lengthy standoff, the wounded suspect surrendered and was taken into custody.
Inside the residence, officers discovered a woman dead, believed to have been shot.
The suspect, who was also wounded, was detained; it is unclear whether his injury was self-inflicted or caused by police fire.
Authorities have not released the identities of either the suspect or the victim. The investigation remains ongoing.
