On Thursday, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill announced that the state has filed a lawsuit against Roblox Corporation, alleging that the popular gaming platform for children and teenagers has played a role in the dissemination of child sexual abuse material and has failed to adequately safeguard minors from predators.

The suit charges that the California-based company intentionally or recklessly created a platform lacking sufficient age verification processes, allowing millions of users to easily register accounts with fake birth dates.

Since its founding in 2006, Roblox allows users to create and participate in interactive games, known as “experiences,” and communicate in real time. The platform reports nearly 82 million active users daily and over 6.4 million user-generated experiences. Its 2024-2025 annual report reveals that around 20% of its active users are under the age of 9.

“Roblox is riddled with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety,” said Murrill. “Parents must be aware of the serious risks Roblox presents to their children so they can take preventative measures at home.”

Roblox has not yet responded to the lawsuit, citing ongoing legal proceedings, but stated it allocates “substantial resources” to detect and prevent inappropriate content and behaviors, including efforts to redirect users away from external links and interactions that may lack proper moderation.

Despite acknowledging some flaws, the company emphasized that it has implemented sophisticated technological safeguards and enforcement measures, such as restrictions on sharing personal details, links, and images between users, underscoring that community safety remains a top priority.
