An investigation is ongoing following the death of a man who was struck by a Garland police officer.
On October 10, 2025, around 6:30 a.m., an officer left the Garland Police Department at 1891 Forest Lane and was traveling eastbound on West State Street in the 1500 block.
As the officer approached McKinley Street, he came upon a truck stopped in the roadway, blocking the entire eastbound lane with no lights on. A man was standing in front of the vehicle in the middle of the road.
In an effort to avoid a collision, the officer’s vehicle collided with both the truck and the man, later identified as 32-year-old Garland resident Juan Pablo Rio Aguilar.
Aguilar was taken to a hospital but was later pronounced dead. The officer received medical treatment and has been released.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected as this tragic incident remains under investigation.
