A former security guard has been charged with murder in connection to the death of the dean of Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Inglewood.
The shooting occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Friday within an office on the campus located at 8911 Aviation Boulevard. AIR7 footage captured a significant police presence outside the school while authorities searched for the shooter.
Jesse Figueroa, 40, who previously worked at the college, is also facing attempted murder charges for injuring another employee during the same incident on May 2.
Figueroa faces several felony charges, including one count of murder, one count of attempted murder, one count of possession of a firearm with prior violent convictions, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon with prior convictions.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances leading up to the deadly shooting, which authorities classify as an act of workplace violence.
Family members have identified the late dean as Dr. Cameisha Clark in a statement, expressing their deep sorrow.
“We are heartbroken. Cameisha’s life was cut short, taken from us in an act of senseless violence that no woman should ever have to face,” the statement said. “She brought warmth, laughter, and grace into our lives every day. Her presence was a gift, and the void she left is immeasurable.”
According to her family, Clark had just been promoted to dean at Spartan College. Prior to this role, she served at Clark Atlanta University in her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.
