
In the early hours of Tuesday morning in Lubbock, two Texas Tech University police officers were shot, and a suspect was killed in an exchange of gunfire.
The Texas Tech Police responded at approximately 12:45 a.m. to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a campus parking lot in the 2700 block of Marsha Sharp Freeway. When approaching the individual, the suspect drew a firearm and fired at officers. The officers returned fire, hitting the suspect, who died at the scene.
The two officers sustained injuries that are not life-threatening and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the suspect or the officers involved.
Investigators are working to determine the motive for the shooting and whether the suspect was a student at the university.
