A U.S. tourist visiting Puerto Rico for a Bad Bunny concert was shot and killed early Sunday morning.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Kevin Mares, who was a resident of New York.
The shooting took place in the early morning at a nightclub called “Shelter for Mistreated Men” in La Perla.
Mares was shot in the left side of his abdomen and was taken to Puerto Rico’s largest public hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Homicide Sergeant Arnaldo Ruiz said in a phone interview that the incident occurred when several people nearby began arguing, prompting one individual to draw a firearm and shoot at least three people, including Mares. A brother and sister, both in their mid-40s and residents of La Perla, were also wounded and are still hospitalized.
Ruiz emphasized that Mares was an innocent bystander. He was with three friends who told police they were in Puerto Rico for a Bad Bunny concert.
At this time, authorities have not identified the motives behind the altercation, and there are no suspect descriptions available.
