Virginia Family Files Lawsuit Against Funeral Home Over Maggot Infestation During Son’s Viewing

432views

A Virginia family filed a lawsuit against Snelling Funeral Home in Chesapeake, accusing them of negligence in preparing their son, Torreón Williams, for his viewing.

Williams, who died in a car accident in May 2022, was reportedly presented with a gruesome scene involving maggots during his open casket viewing, causing the family significant emotional distress.

The lawsuit claims the funeral home failed to properly clean and disinfect his body prior to embalming.

The case is scheduled for trial on July 28 in the Chesapeake Circuit Court.

Snellings is owned by Norfolk-based Hollomon-Brown Funeral Homes. In a statement to WAVY, CEO Casey Jones said, “The unexpected passing of Torreon Williams is tragic, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family. However, because the events following his death are the subject of ongoing litigation, we do not believe it is appropriate to comment publicly at this time.”
