A suspect, Benjamin Plank, has been apprehended after opening fire on Oklahoma deputies who had been issuing an eviction notice, on Monday afternoon, in southwest Oklahoma City.

Two deputies were transported to a medical facility where one of them, Sgt. Bobby Swartz, was declared deceased. The other officer’s name hasn’t been released.

Around 1:15 p.m., three officers had served the eviction notice at a residence. The suspect began shooting as deputies attempted to get into the home, striking both deputies.

A little after that, Oklahoma City police saw a dark-colored pickup truck towing a boat that was said to belong to the suspect. A high-speed chase then took place on Interstate 35 and 40 in which the suspect and officers exchanged gunfire.

The pursuit concluded near Tinker Air Force Base. The suspect had driven up to the gate with his rifle pointed to the ground and put his hands up. He was then tackled to the ground and apprehended.

Plank has been charged with shooting with the intent to kill, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, and the use of a vehicle in the discharge of a weapon.
