A personal injury lawyer has been suspended from practicing law in the state of Florida after purposefully running into four people, officials say.

On February 22, Beatrice Bijoux, 31, was apprehended after being accused of ramming her black Kia into four people who were eating outside. The incident occurred at The Fresh Market, in Stuart, Florida.

The four victims experienced non-life threatening injuries, but one person was airlifted to a hospital.

Bijoux was charged with four counts of first-degree attempted murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She also faces a charge of one wanton fleeing and has pleaded not guilty.

Camera footage from the occurrence shows the woman plowing her car into the people at a table. One witness stated that Bijoux hit the gas prior to hitting it.

Another person said that he attempted to stop the driver from leaving the location. However, he had to move out of the way swiftly as she tried to run him over.

After initially running from police when she was found, Bijoux eventually turned herself in at a police station. There, she told authorities that “voices in her head told her to kill the people.” She also stated that she wanted to harm herself and others, including her 4-year-old niece.

Police say that Bijoux was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia in 2019. But, she hadn’t taken her medicine since December.

Bijoux had been a member of the Bar since 2016. However, on March 21, she was suspended on an emergency basis approved by Florida’s Supreme Court.

Bijoux is still in custody at the Martin County Jail.
