Toni Richardson, a Phoenix, Arizona, police officer, was allegedly caught in a PPP loan fraud scheme.
Richardson quit her job and was arrested on claims that she filled out a fraudulent application in order to get $1.3 million in federal loans from the CARES Act.
The former officer and her business partner, Willie Mitchell, documented that they needed the money for their business, “The Lotto Club.” This was a supposed nonprofit charity for ex-military servicemen/women.
The two collected $1,276,500 from the PPP program. This was created to assist business owners during the COVID-19 pandemic. But, they are accused of using the funds for personal reasons and sending the money to their own personal accounts.
Richardson and Mitchell noted that they had 85 workers and labor cost them $500,000 a month. Courts documents reveal that Richardson was the only owner. Additionally, there was no payroll or workers in the business that started in 2015. Back then, it was listed as a “social club.”
On Dec.1, Richardson was apprehended and charged with conspiracy, bank fraud, transactional money laundering, and forfeiture allegation.
