Sisters, Bibaa Henry, 46, and Nicole Smallman 27, were stabbed and killed by 19 year-old Danyal Hussein. They were celebrating Henry’s birthday on June 8 in London, at the time.

At the crime scene, Police Constable Deniz Jaffer, 47 and Jaime Lewis, 33, took pictures of the two Black women’s bodies. Authorities say that Lewis then sent the pictures and a message through WhatsApp.

“Unfortunately, I’m sat next to two dead birds with stab wounds,” the text read. “I’m here now. I’ll try to take pictures of the dead birds,” Jaffer replied.

When interrogated, Lewis denied taking the photos although they were located on his phone. The officers actions have been called a “gross misconduct.”

“It is obvious to all, the behavior this way discredits the police service and undermines public confidence,” the police department spokesperson stated.

The officers are no longer employed at the department. They will appear in court on December 6.
