Registered Sex Offender Hopped Over Elementary School Fence, Trying To Sexually Assault 10-Year-Old Girl

On Friday, 32-year-old Logan Nighswonger, a registered sex offender, allegedly jumped over a fence and tried to sexually assault a 10-year-old girl. The incident happened inside McAuliffe Elementary School, in Riverside, California.

Nighswonger is being held in jail without bond for attempted sex acts with a child under the age of 10 and being a sex offender on school grounds.

A little after 12:30 p.m., authorities arrived to the school after receiving information of a man hopping a school fence and going into the girls’ bathroom. It isn’t known, as of yet, how the man entered the school.

“The campus supervisor observed this man…come out of the restroom and heard a girl crying inside. The campus supervisor followed Nighswonger as he jumped other fences to the parking lot and get inside a vehicle. He was then able to provide a detailed vehicle description and license plate as the suspect drove away,” authorities say.

Officers were praised for their quick and action and for taking care of the threat.

The superintendent of Alvord Unified School District added that, “Children should never experience a situation such as this. It deeply saddens me that this incident occurred.”
