Documents show that individuals involved in a robbery ring in New York gained $500,000 in cash. They used a hidden Apple watch to track another criminal’s vehicle.
In January 2020, the seven person crew was led by 30 year-old Darren Lindsay. He had purchased an Apple watch and linked it to his AT&T account.
They then placed the watch under the bumper of a car that belonged to a drug-runner.
The first day of tracking, they were unsuccessful.
The next day, they located the victim and demanded he get into the car at gunpoint. They decided not to harm him, but stole his phone, wallet, and hotel room key.
A woman, Indigo Grant, used the key to get into the victim’s hotel room. She stole a bag containing $500,000, even taking pictures next to the money.
In July, the group was apprehended for many robberies between 2019 and 2020.
Lindsay and Grant have plead not guilty.
