An Indiana man was arrested this week for attacking his mother with a knife.

Jeramie Lee Durbin, was taken into custody after he attacked his mother, Mary Durbin, slicing her wrists and neck.

Deputy Patrick Gallagher responded to a 911 call of a woman bleeding from stab wounds. When he arrived, he saw lacerations on Ms. Durbin’s hands and neck.

She advised Deputy Gallagher that her son, Jeramie Durbin, inflicted the wounds at her home.

The Deputy went to the scene of the crime and observed Jeramie Durban inside the residence. At one point, he appeared in the doorway with a knife in his hand.

Deputy Gallagher ordered him to drop the knife.
Jeramie then made the sign of a cross, and threw the knife in the yard.

Deputy Gallagher then physically restrained him and took him into custody.

Ms. Durbin alleged that her son had been following her around in her trailer all day. After asking him for help around the house, he pushed her down and attempted to strangle her.

At one point, the son retrieved a knife from the kitchen and tried to slice her throat. She advised that he continued to batter her whenever she would try to get up.

Ms. Durbin was eventually able to escape by running out the back door, jumping a fence, and flagging down a passing car.

Jeramie Durbin was charged with criminal confinement, attempted murder, possession of marijuana, strangulation, domestic battery, aggravated battery, resisting law enforcement, intimidation, and interfering with reporting crime. Almost every charge is a felony.

Court records show the defendant was also charged with arson for hire in 2016, counterfeiting in 2018, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia in 2020, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in 2021.
