Madelyn “Madie” Nipcon, a 20 year-old student at Tufts University, passed away on Sunday subsequent to choking during a hot dog eating contest.
Nipcon had recently graduated from a high school in New York and was an athlete and student leader.
She died at a medical facility in Boston after losing consciousness the day before at an off-campus charity fundraiser event.
About three thousand people joined together to remember Nipcon, also known as Scooter, Sunday night. They placed candlelights around her No. 2 jerseys in her honor.
“Scooter was a true friend and teammate. She truly valued her relationships with her teammates and coaches. Her reach was far beyond our team. She was a true connector on campus and touched every single person she met,” her friend posted on Instagram.
