Suspect Accused of Killing Mesquite Police Officer Shot Himself; Wife Arrested On Aggravated Assault With Deadly Weapons Charge

The woman married to the man accused of fatally shooting a Mesquite police officer Friday has been arrested an charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers were called to a disturbance call at an Albertsons grocery store on South Belt Line Road near Cartwright Road on December 3.

Upon arrival Jamie Jaramillo opened fire striking Sgt. Richard Houston in the parking lot. He then turned the gun on himself.

Both men were transported to an area hospital where Houston was pronounced dead and Jaramillo remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Apparently Jaramillo’s wife was there to confront him about his mistress. The mistress contacted police when Juventina Vazques Bences,43 picked up Jaramillo’s gun and pointed it at her.

Bences is being held on a $100,000 bond.
