41-year-old Fabian Cortez, a man who had been charged with crimes against children, was found unresponsive, on Tuesday, while he was being held in a jail in Harris County, Texas.
Cortez was facing felony charges of continuous sexual assault of a child and child pornography.
At around 2:30 p.m., Cortez was found in the restroom at the Joint Processing Center inside of the facility. Detectives say that he seemingly hanged himself with a drawstring he retrieved from what he was wearing.
Cortez was taken to a jail clinic where CPR was performed, and then he was transported by ambulance to a medical facility where he was later declared deceased.
An autopsy will be conducted, and a review of the apparent suicide will be done by the Texas Rangers.
