In May, a teen in Houston, Texas, was killed for his shoes. Now, police say that they have apprehended and charged a suspect.

On May 6, 14-year-old Axel Turcios died after he was fatally shot at an apartment complex at 9545 Ella Lee, close to Tanglewilde.

Authorities say that Axel was on the ground bleeding as he talked to witnesses who tried to assist him. He stated that suspects had taken his shoes off of his feet and fled. Turcios died the next day.

After a news conference detailed a $25,000 reward for information on the suspects, someone tipped off police. 17-year-old Ramiro Hernandez was then arrested. He is facing capital murder charges.

“A 14-year-old kid, an innocent kid, his whole life ahead of him, Lamar High School student. It’s senseless. It makes no sense, and it angers me,” said Police Chief Troy Finner.
