A Tesla Model 3 owner who rents out his vehicle on the car rental app, Turo, has gone viral.
Frank Valdez started getting various notifications on his Tesla mobile app while his car was being rented out. After checking on his car remotely, he noticed something wasn’t right.
Frank located his car by the Tesla mobile app’s GPS system and arrived to the place where it was being parked. He recorded the incident and posted it on TikTok.
When he pulled up, he found the original bumper of his Tesla Model 3 removed and placed on a bench. An aftermarket un-colored bumper was installed on his car instead.
Frank realized he was looking at his Tesla parked in a body shop and confronted the staff. Their response was that they just wanted to test aftermarket parts for a Tesla Model 3.
Frank became upset and threatened to call the cops. That’s when the workers, and car renter, promised his car would be back to its original shape in two hours.
He later found out the body shop his car was at has a Tesla and exotic car parts website.
Tesla’s have many sensors that send signals if the front trunk, or doors of the car are opened. Eight exterior cameras and 1 cabin camera allow the owner to look at what’s happening around the car via his mobile phone.
The personal car rental app, Turo, addressed the viral video and said they would cover any damages done to an owner’s vehicle while it’s being rented.
