Texarkana Teen Will Be Tried As An Adult In Double-Murder

Kevonte Collins, 17, will be tried as an adult, a Texarkana, Texas, district judge decided last week.

He is facing charges of capital murder of several people and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a shooting that happened at an apartment complex in December. It resulted in the death of D’Angelo Handy and Rickalon Young, both 18. Another teen, 17, was left with several gunshot injuries.

In May, Collins was apprehended at a residence in Desoto, Texas. He has been held in a juvenile detention center as he was 16 at the time of the shootings. Now that he will be tried as an adult, he is eligible for an adult facility.

On Thursday afternoon, Collins was booked into the Bowie County Jail. He has a bond of $1.3 million.
