Texas Board Of Parole Recommends Delaying Rodney Reed’s Execution

The Texas Board Of Pardons And Paroles unanimously recommended delaying Rodney Reed’s execution Friday.
The parole board recommended a 120 reprieve and rejected Reed’s request to commute his sentence to life in prison.
Gov. Greg Abbott is the seventh member on the parole board and it is unclear if he will reject, accept or do nothing at this time.
Reed’s attorney Bryce Benjet believes the 120 days will be vital to the case and could possibly allow DNA testing that could prove who actually committed the crime.
Reed,51 is set to be executed Wednesday for the 1996 killing of Stacey Stites,19.
Reed maintains his innocence and says he believes Stites fiance and former police officer Jimmy Fennell is the real killer because he was upset about Reed and Stites affair.
Fennell was paroled last year after serving time for sexual assault.
Reed’s semen was found inside of Stites and the relationship between the two could not be proven at trial so Fennell was cleared as a suspect.
Reed’s attorney believes Reed’s conviction was based on flawed evidence.
