A Texas man accused of killing his girlfriend’s 13 year old daughter in 2010 was just indicted. This indictment comes more than a decade after she went missing.

Shawn C. Adkins, 35, was indicted on murder and tampering with evidence in the death of Hailey Dunn, 13.

Dunn’s mother, Billie Jean Dunn, reported her daughter missing in December 2010. Her body was recovered in March 2013, 35 minutes north of her home.

Adkins was Billie Jean’s boyfriend who lived with her and her daughter in Colorado City, Texas. He was the sole person of interest but there was not enough evidence to arrest him until earlier this year. Even though he was the last known person to have seen Hailey Dunn this entire time. He was finally taken into custody in June 2021 on suspicion of murder. The grand jury returned his indictment on Dec. 30.

Prosecutors revealed for the first time how they believe Hailey was murdered. This new information was filed with the courts and led to Adkins indictment.

“Shawn Casey Adkins is accused of striking Hailey Dunn in the head with an unknown object causing her death on Dec. 26, 2010,” the report stated.

The evidence tampering charge comes from Adkins allegedly disposing of Hailey’s body by dumping the remains at a lake.

Prosecutors accused him of “intentionally and knowingly concealing a human corpse”. Also saying he had “intent to impair its availability as evidence”.

Hailey’s father, Clint Dunn, pushed for legal action against Adkins and never gave up fighting for justice for his daughter.
