A Texas Southern University student was accidentally shot and killed at an apartment complex near the university.

On Thursday April 7, officers responded to a shooting call on the block of 3600 Rosewood Street.

As authorities and campus police were arriving they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso and two friends trying to render aid.

While friends attempted to take their roommate to the hospital emergency crews arrived and transported the victim, Derrico Moore to an area hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

According to reports, Moore and his roommate went to visit another friend at his apartment. The friend pulled out a gun to show his friends when it accidentally went off and struck Moore in his torso area.

As a result, the friends called 911 and attempted to transport him to a hospital.

Moore was a talented trumpet player. He played in the Oak Park High School marching band before playing in TSU’s marching band, the Ocean of Soul.
