On Friday night, three students from the University of Oklahoma died from a car wreck.

The three were coming back from a storm chasing trip as they are students who were studying meteorology.

Nicholas Nair, the 20-year-old driver from Denton, TX; Gavin Short, 19; of Grayslake, Illinois; and Drake Brooks, 22, from Evansville, Indiana, were all killed.

Other students stated that they all had been chasing various storms from Oklahoma to Kansas.

As they were tracking each other’s location, the students noticed that the trio’s location had come to a stop in the middle of I-35.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol stated that their 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan had hydroplaned on the wet roads close to Tonkawa. Their SUV had gone off the highway, turned to the right, went back onto the highway, and came to a stop.

Then, a tractor-trailer rig fatally struck them. It took emergency crews close to five and a half hours to pull the three from the aftermath.

The driver of the semi was transported to a medical facility where he sought medical attention and was released.

The university has expressed their condolences to all the families and friends impacted by the accident.
