Three Snow Leopards Die From COVID-19 Infection

1.5kviews

After many animals suffered from health issues related to Covid-19, three snow leopards at the Lincoln, Nebraska, Children’s Zoo have passed away.

In October, the large cats, Ranney,  Everest, and Makalu, tested positive for the virus after exhibiting symptoms. They were given steroids and antibiotics to prevent a more serious problem.

The snow leopard population is vulnerable, and they can usually be located in 12 mountainous countries in central Asia.

Part of a statement on Facebook, issued on Friday from the zoo, read, “This loss is truly heartbreaking, and we are all grieving together.”

Some zoos have chosen to vaccinate their animals. It isn’t known if Lincoln Children’s Zoo has done so.

The zoo is still open to the public. They vow that they are being safe to ensure the spread of the virus doesn’t occur between humans and animals.
