A tree trimmer died while working 50 feet off the ground in Los Angeles on Saturday.
A neighbor noticed the man dangling upside down around noon and called 911 for help.
Nearly 40 firefighters arrived to the scene, hoping to get the man down safely. A truck with an aerial ladder, and a rope and harness system was also called in for assistance.
Firefighters eventually got the man loose and lowered to the ground. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:45 p.m.
The coroner’s office later identified the tree trimmer as 70-year-old David Cerigioni.
Since Cerigioni was a private contractor and working alone, no one is certain how long he was hanging upside down.
Live electrical wires were also present where Cerigioni was working, but it’s not clear if they played a role in his death.
The death has been reported to Cal/OSHA, which will investigate along with the L.A. County coroner.
