On Friday, a truck driver rammed into a group of protestors in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The incident occurred as the group crossed a street, protesting the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
The male driver, who hasn’t been named, slammed into the demonstrators, all women, at the end of the procession. Witnesses stated that one woman was transported to a medical facility after he ran over her ankle.
“He tried to murder them. These women see him coming, and a bunch of people put their hands out to stop him. And he just keeps going,” said a local journalist.
Another witness reported seeing the driver impatiently waiting, hitting the accelerator, and driving around several vehicles to hit demonstrators.
One protestor, can be observed on video with a protest sign. She, grabbed the back of the driver’s window, which was down, and tried to get a hold of his steering wheel. During that time, the driver took her sign and ripped it, and she fell as he proceeded to try and run over other women who were hurt.
Another witness said that the driver didn’t say anything about being anti-abortion. However, “he did go out of his way to hit protestors in the street who had very visible, very clear signs that they were pro-choice.”
The driver’s license plate was recorded as the man drove away. It was then uploaded to social media.
Authorities say that the driver was interviewed “voluntarily” but haven’t said if that was at the location or when he was found later.
