Truck Drivers Express Concerns Over New Regulations

4.9kviews

In 2020, a law was put into place that prohibits truck drivers from driving if they have positive drug test results.

A study from the Department of Transportation states that 2% of all 18-wheeler and car accidents are related to illegal drugs. Brake problems 29%, speeding 23%, not familiar with the road 22%, and roadway problems 20%, were among other factors.

It is known that most drivers test positive for marijuana. Some drivers feel that the method in which they test for marijuana is outdated. They also say that hard-core drugs are more acceptable than marijuana in this industry. Many drivers believe it is simply unfair to take a driver off the road for one offense or mistake. Others think that better training in truck driving school would be more beneficial.

However, some drivers are convinced that marijuana is as harmful as other drugs. They say those who test positive shouldn’t be on roads.
