Two people have been arrested in the fatal shooting of an ex-University of Oklahoma football player in May.
25-year-old Du’Vonta Lampkin was discovered deceased after a single gunshot injury at an apartment on South Ervay Street in downtown Dallas.
Authorities have identified Antwan Franklin, 22, and Erick Garcia, 24, as the suspects in Lampkin’s death. Jail records indicate that they have been in custody since the beginning of July. Franklin’s bail was set at $500,000 while Garcia’s was set at $750,000.
Lampkin’s friend and the friend’s girlfriend told authorities that they had been renting the apartment through an Airbnb for Lampkin. This was until he moved into his own place. When he wasn’t answering their phone calls, the couple went to check on him. They then found Lampkin deceased.
Authorities said that his black and white designer backpack, cell phone, and wallet had gone missing from the location.
Court documents note that Franklin knew his friend, Lampkin, had money, was “friendly,” and didn’t have a gun. Thus, he planned the robbery. Garcia and a third suspect robbed Lampkin, taking his backpack that contained a great amount of cash. The third suspect is still being sought.
Lampkin was an ex-defensive tackle for the University of Oklahoma from 2015 to 2018. He was a part of the Tennessee Titans for a little more than a month prior to being waived.
No more information regarding the killing of Lampkin has been released.
