Washington Commanders To Be Purchased For More Than $6 Billion To The Ownership Group Of Josh Harris And Magic Johnson

Josh Harris has made a non-exclusive deal and will acquire the Washington Commanders after the organization has chosen to sell the franchise. Harris’ ownership group also involves former NBA player Magic Johnson and Philanthropist Mitchell Rales. The franchise is said to have sold for $6.05 billion.

Sources indicate that even though an agreement has been made, the league hasn’t signed off on the agreement that is set to occur soon. In May, NFL owners will come together in Minneapolis to attend the Spring League Meeting.

As of now, Dan and Tanya Snyder own the Commanders which was acquired in 1999. Since its inception, many debatable situations have happened. In 2020, Dan Snyder is said to have gotten a $55 million loan without the company’s approval. He was also accused of making the workplace environment uncomfortable for women. Then, when it was time to change the name of the team from the Redskins to another name, he wouldn’t budge until feeling the pressure from the public.

Harris currently has part ownership in the Philadelphia 76ers and NHL’s New Jersey Devils. He has minority ownership in the Pittsburgh Steelers, as well.

Johnson used to have part ownership in the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, he is has part ownership in MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers, Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC, and the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks.
