Garland police arrested a woman after she led police on a chase in a stolen ambulance.
Kimberly Fouty, 34, allegedly stole a Wilmer Fire Department ambulance from Dallas’ Baylor hospital on Mother’s Day.
Around 4:50 p.m. Sunday, police responded to reports of an ambulance hitting a gas pipe and a residential fence near Gatewood Park.
Garland police officers arrived to the area, located the stolen ambulance, and attempted to pull it over. Fouty then turned on the stolen ambulance’s sirens and started driving erratically through the neighborhood and across residents’ lawns.
Officers chased Fouty for more than five miles, including across the Rowlett Road bridge over Lake Ray Hubbard.
The chase came to an end when she drove through a metal guardrail in Rowlett.
Fouty was taken into custody without further incident.
Officers believe Fouty was under the influence of narcotics.
She is charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Driving While Intoxicated, Evading Arrest and Detention and Failure to Stop and Leave ID.
The Wilmer Fire Department towed the disabled ambulance from the crash site, 30 miles away from their department.
