On Thursday, Mikaila Martin’s 3 year-old daughter rooted for her during the US Olympic track and field trials.

Martin was 21 and in college when she birthed her first child. She was a track and field sensation at the University of Houston. Then, she had to postpone her plans to care for Camryn, her daughter.

Since then, Martin has depended on her mother and sister tremendously. This enables her to go to school, train, and maintain part-time employment.

She has proven that, “if you dream it, you can achieve it.” Recently, she made history by becoming the first UH female to earn All-America honors in the Hammer Throw. She came in 12th and earned a berth in the US Olympic trials.

Martin plans to go pro and obtain a graduate degree in human resources. She will graduate UH in May of 2022.
