Virginia Lopez Severiano, a 44-year-old mother from North Carolina, died on Tuesday. This came after she got caught inside of an industrial food mixer at her job.

Lopez Severiano was working at Azteca Market in Selma when she got stuck. She had been cleaning the machine, that made bread, at the time of the occurrence. Authorities say that the machine appeared to be on as Lopez Severiano was working.

When first responders arrived to the location, they were able to get the woman out, and she was transported to Duke University Hospital by air.

Doctors were going to perform an operation so that she wouldn’t lose her arm, but Lopez Severiano died from her wounds later that evening.

“Responders basically took the machine apart in order to get the woman out,” said the Selma Fire Department. They stated that it took more than an hour as small tools were used. Fire officials added that half of Lopez Severiano’s body had been inside of the equipment.

A GoFundMe has been created for the woman’s relatives.

“[Lopez Severiano] was a very loved person by the community. Every single penny will be going directly to them,” a description on the campaign noted.

The incident is being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
