Woman Given 95 Years In Prison After Girlfriend Was Shot 8 Times, Fatally Choked With Electrical Cord

A woman in New Jersey has been given close to 100 years in prison for unsuccessfully setting up her girlfriend to be killed. She later choked the woman to death with an electrical cord.

Jennifer Sweeney was given 95 years in prison for the 2015 attempted murder and 2016 murder of 41-year-old Tyrita Julius. She was given 75 years for the murder and 20 years for the attempted assassination.

In November 2015, Julius was located in her car that had crashed and hit a utility pole. She had been struck by eight bullets but lived. Her daughter had been hit by a bullet, too, but no one was arrested in the incident.

In March 2016, Julius’s relatives had reported her missing. Her mother told authorities that she had last been observed with Sweeney.

Months after that, Julius’s remains were discovered, with an electrical wire around her neck, in two trash bags. They had been put in the backyard of a home that belonged to Sweeney’s friend.

Andre Harris is the gunman and friend that Sweeney had paid to kill Julius when the plan failed in 2015. He was given 16 years in prison for his involvement. He accepted a plea deal and testified against Sweeney. He said that Sweeney wanted Julius killed because she believed that the woman was cheating on her.

Sweeney and Harris are in custody at the Monmouth County detention facility as they wait to be transferred to a state prison in New Jersey. Sweeney won’t be able to get paroled until she is at least 100 years old.
