The human head and hands found in a freezer at a Colorado home in January have been confirmed to belong to Amanda Overstreet, a 16-year-old girl who had been missing for nearly 20 years.

As reported by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, DNA testing was used to identify the victim.

The remains were located in the freezer of a recently sold residence in Grand Junction, Colorado, on January 12, after someone arrived to collect the appliance that was being offered for free.

At the time of her disappearance, Overstreet was believed to be 16 years old and had not been “seen or heard from since April 2005.” She was the daughter of the previous homeowner.

There is currently no indication that Overstreet was ever officially reported missing, and the “circumstances surrounding her disappearance are still under investigation.”

No cause of death has been released.
