A 13-year-old girl is said to have killed her mother after her phone was taken away.

On March 29, at about 12:20 p.m., authorities arrived to a scene, in regards to a woman who had been reported to be unresponsive. They then discovered a 44-year-old woman who had several stab injuries to her neck and back. Additionally, blood could be seen coming from her head.

When authorities first came in contact with Lataya Powell, she stated that she was remorseful for killing her mother.

“I killed my mother, and she will never forgive me if she is alive,” Powell is said to have told police.

Detectives say that she stabbed her mother during a disagreement and then threw the weapon at a neighbor’s front door in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

“I don’t have my phone because my mother took it before our fight,” she stated.

As she was being apprehended, Powell said that she felt guilt “regret, guilt, and self-disgust.”

Officials say that they also discovered an 11-year-old boy with stab wounds to the back, but they were non-life-threatening injuries.

Powell faces charges of homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence.

She will be tried as an adult.
