On Wednesday, authorities stated that they apprehended a 16-year-old boy. This is because he was trying to persuade other students to help carry out a mass shooting. This was to happen at a high school in Berkeley, California.

On May 21, police were alerted of the teen’s scheme against Berkeley High School which involved a bombing as one option. A search of his residence was conducted. Then, pieces of explosives, assault rifles, many knives, and electronic devices for making weapons were found.

The teen was then evaluated by the city’s Mobile Crisis Team as requested by authorities as a mental health response. His family hired an attorney.

On Monday, the teen surrendered to authorities and was apprehended on suspicion of possessing destructive device materials and threatening to commit a crime which would result in death or great bodily injury.

“Speaking up in this instance allowed for the police to intervene in advance of any harm occurring,” said the superintendent of Berkeley Unified School District.

He added that the school has been in cooperation with the police as the investigation is continuing.

Because the teen is a juvenile, his name hasn’t been released.
