A woman has been arrested for concealment of death after human remains were found in a storage unit in Maquon, Illinois.

On October 7, Knox County authorities were notified of a “suspicious odor” coming from a storage unit near 3rd and Main Streets.

Authorities met with the manager of the facility and the owner of the unit where the smell was believed to be coming from.

The unit owner initially told officers the smell was coming from a dead possum, according to authorities. Instead, when the unit owner opened the unit there was a large box. When authorities asked the owner to open the box, the owner told them there was a body inside.

Once authorities received a search warrant, they opened the box discovering human remains inside.

On October 11, Marcy L. Oglesby, 50, was arrested on a warrant for concealment of death. The sheriff’s office has not yet said if she was the owner of the storage unit.

Due to the condition of the body the identity has not yet been established.

This is an ongoing investigation by the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.

Oglesby was also arrested on two Fulton County warrants for fraud and deceptive practices, both unrelated to this case.
