On Friday morning, people across Tennessee were awaken just after midnight when they received a Blue Alert from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The alert was sent out after Blount County Sheriff’s Deputy Greg McCowan and Deputy Shelby Eggers were shot as a traffic stop took place just prior to 8:30 p.m., on Feb. 8, outside of Maryville. McCowan later succumbed to his wounds at a medical facility while Eggers received medical attention and was released.

The Sheriff’s department is now requesting that anyone with a doorbell camera or outdoor security, in the area, review their footage or images for possible suspicion persons or activity.

Police have stated that they are looking for 42-year-old Kenneth Wayne DeHart from the city of Alcoa. He is facing charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and being a felon in possession of a weapon.

Anyone with information regarding DeHart’s location is urged to call the Blount County Sheriff’s Office at 865-981-7125. An $80,000 reward is being offered.
