John Guzman, an Orange County, Florida, deputy, was arrested on Saturday, close to 4 a.m. This came after he was said to have been driving under the influence.
A released body cam recording depicts St. Cloud, Florida, police officers discovering Guzman unconscious in the driver’s seat. Officials say that the car had been running, and his foot was still on the brake.
Officers had seen the deputy at the entrance of a Neighborhood Walmart. They first believed that Guzman was experiencing a medical problem until they instructed him to exit the vehicle. He then failed to stand properly and stumbled.
Documents state that Guzman’s eyes had been bloodshot, glossy, and watery. To add, his breath smelled of alcohol.
When requested to take a field sobriety test, Guzman refused and was apprehended.
Guzman was taken into custody by the St. Cloud, Florida, police, the sheriff’s office stated.
He began working for the sheriff’s office in 2019, in the uniform patrol division. He has now been relieved of his law enforcement responsibilities and is performing an administrative role.
When the criminal proceedings are finished, an administrative review will be done, the sheriff’s office noted.
