On October 22, 2022, around 1 a.m., officers responded to a call on the 8900 block of Vantage Point Drive regarding an unresponsive child. Upon arriving the child was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

James told authorities that everything was normal that day and she put 1 month old Zyholn Phillips down for bed around 6 p.m. and was checking on him periodically. She said around 1 a.m. she noticed him unresponsive and FaceTimed her daughter and a nurse at the hospital told her how to perform cpr.

An autopsy was performed and showed that Phillips suffered severe head trauma and ruled his cause of death a homicide.

If found guilty James could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
