Former ex football player Rae Carruth,44 was released from Sampson Correctional Facility Monday morning around 8am.
Carruth was convicted back in 2001 and sentenced to 18-24 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of conspiracy to murder his then pregnant girlfriend Cherica Adams.
Carruth was released after serving 19 years behind bars and is getting out hoping to meet and build a relationship with his son Chancellor Lee Adams,18.
Adams was 8 months pregnant at the time of the shooting and doctors performed an emergency cesarean section. Chancellor survived but was diagnosed with severe cerebral palsy because of the shooting.
Adams is currently living with his grandmother Saundra Adams and she says that she is open to Carruth and Adams having a relationship but he will not be able to gain guardianship of him.
Prosecutors also arrested and convicted the shooter Van Brett Watkins who plead guilty to second degree murder for shooting and killing Adamn and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Michael Kennedy who was the shooter was released from prison back in 2011.
