Fatal Meliodosis Disease Discovered In U.S.

2.2kviews

Meliodosis( or Whitmore’s disease), has been discovered in states such as Texas, Georgia, Kansas, and Minnesota.

This comes as hospitals are already seeing an increase in COVID-19  patients.

The CDC stated that health officials are urgently trying to find a common source of the deadly disease.

Southern parts of the US, like Texas, have the type of weather that is good for host B. pseudomallei. Bacteria taken from environmental samples would have to be analyzed to see how prevalent the disease is in the US.

Studies have shown that the virus is contracted by coming close to contaminated water or soil. When people or animals inhale polluted dust or water droplets, consume dirty water, or take in soil-infected food, they can be affected.

People in Texas that have a new cough, chest pain, high fever, or sudden weight loss should be seen by a medical professional.
