Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis Given 40-Month Prison Sentence For Defrauding The NBA’s Health Care Plan
On Thursday, ex-NBA big man Glen “Big Baby” Davis was given a 40-month prison sentence. This comes after it was found that he defrauded the NBA’s healthcare plan.
The 38-year-old was also given 3 years of supervised release in addition to the 40-month prison term.
Davis had been convicted of health care fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to make false statements, and conspiracy to commit health care and wire fraud in November 2023. Due to those charges, the ex-NBA power forward had been looking at up to 20 years in prison.
Davis and multiple other ex-NBA players defrauded the NBA’s insurance plan for players and their relatives of over $5 million. The operation lasted for at least 4 years as the players would turn in false claims for dental services and other medical procedures that never happened.
Throughout the years, Davis submitted a total of $132,000 worth of claims. The ex-Boston Celtics draft pick said that he received $27,200 worth of dental work that was done in October 2019. But, officials found that Davis was really in Las Vegas and later flew to Paris on that exact day.
Ex-NBA players Terrence Williams and Will Bynum were also found guilty in the matter. Williams, who was said to have headed the operation, was given a 10- year prison sentence as Bynum was given an 18-month prison sentence.
While Davis played in the NBA for eight seasons, he averaged 8.0 points and 4.4 rebounds as he played for the Celtics, Orlando Magic, and Los Angeles Clippers. He also assisted the Celtics in winning an NBA championship title in 2008.
