Imprisoned Women In Arizona Can Obtain Menstrual Products With No Fee

When former prisoner Kara Williams was placed at Goodyear’s Perryville prison in Arizona, in 2018, women were only allowed 12 menstrual pads per month.

After a change in policy, women received 36 pads a month. It was also said that the women could receive more if they needed it.

A few months after her release, Williams received emails from women saying that receiving pads was an issue again. They also stated that they had to work to pay for the items.

Now, Williams is thrilled that the governor has signed the “Dignity for Incarcerated Women Act.” This will allow women that are imprisoned in Arizon to obtain menstrual products for free.

Advocates for the incarcerated women said that there is a history of failure by the prison system for females.

Additionally, the new bill comes four years after a federal law said the same was mandatory for all federal prisons.
